Redwoods
A tiny seed falls softly to the forest floor
It rises to the sky slowly reaching for the sun
passing time
in the misty foggy forest on the California coast
slowly decomposing taking its time.

Redwoods at Empire Elementary

Today our class measured the redwoods that were planted in 2007.  We measured them using tape measures.  We found out that the temperature in the trees is different from on the grass, it was 20 degrees cooler.  We used our fists to measure the height.  We found out how tall they were.  Our shortest tree measured 17 feet.  Our tallest tree was 28 feet.  Two trees measured  22 feet 10 inches, one tree was 23 feet, finally the last tree was 20 feet 9 inches.

The trees in 2008 when we planted them.

Here is what they look like today.
